Features
Overview
This mountain climbing Mt Kilimanjaro Safari takes you from Nairobi into Tanzania for an extraordinary mountain trekking experience along the scenic Machame Route one of the most beautiful and popular trails up Africa’s highest mountain. Starting in Moshi, the gateway to Kilimanjaro journey leads you through lush rainforests, moorlands, alpine deserts, and finally to the snow-capped summit of Uhuru Peak (5,895m) the Roof of Africa.

Accompanied by experienced guides and porters, you will follow the “climb high, sleep low” principle for successful acclimatization while enjoying incredible views, unique flora, and the satisfaction of conquering one of the world’s greatest natural wonders. After your descent, unwind with a relaxing night in Moshi before returning to Nairobi.
Day 1: Drive Nairobi – Arusha – Moshi
You will be picked up from your Nairobi hotel or from JKIA by our professional guide in a private 4x4 Land Cruiser. Depart Nairobi early in the morning and drive south across the Namangan border into Tanzania. The journey offers scenic views of the Great Rift Valley, local markets, and the rolling foothills of Mt. Meru as you approach Arusha.

Continue to Moshi town, the base of Kilimanjaro climbing expeditions. Upon arrival, check in at your hotel and attend a short pre-climb briefing with your mountain guide to prepare for the days ahead. Return to Moshi Hotel for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Machame Gate – Machame Camp (3,000m)
Start your morning with a hearty breakfast before driving to Machame Gate (1,800m) for registration and a briefing with your guides. Begin your trek through lush tropical rainforest, where sunlight filters through towering trees and the calls of birds echo above. Along the way, watch for playful colobus monkeys and enjoy a picnic lunch surrounded by the sights and sounds of the forest.

Arrive at Machame Camp in the late afternoon as mist drifts through the trees. Enjoy a warm dinner, relax, and acclimatize to the mountain air. As night falls, settle into your tent beneath a sky glittering with stars, marking the completion of your first day climbing Mt Kilimanjaro.
Day 3: Machame Camp – Shira Camp (3,840m)
Start your morning with breakfast as you prepare to leave the forest behind. The trail climbs steadily through moorland and open heather, revealing breathtaking views of Mount Meru rising in the distance. The air grows cooler and the landscapes more rugged, with volcanic rocks and sweeping valleys unfolding beneath you climbing Mt Kilimanjaro.

Arrive at Shira Camp in the afternoon and take time to relax as the sun sets over the plateau. Enjoy a warm dinner and a peaceful evening under a sky glittering with stars.
Day 4: Shira Camp – Lava Tower – Barranco Camp (3,960m)
After breakfast, begin your steady climb toward the striking Lava Tower (4,630m) a towering volcanic formation offering panoramic mountain views. This is a key acclimatization day, helping your body adjust to the higher altitude. Enjoy lunch near the tower before descending slowly into the scenic Barranco Valley, where the landscape changes dramatically into lush groundsels and giant lobelias.

Arrive at Barranco Camp in the late afternoon, surrounded by steep cliffs and drifting mountain mist. Settle in for a warm dinner and an evening of rest beneath the stars.
Day 5: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp (4,035m)
After breakfast, face the exciting challenge of the Barranco Wall, a steep but safe scramble that rewards you with breathtaking views across the mountain. From the top, follow a winding trail through alpine landscapes dotted with volcanic rocks and sparse vegetation.

Arrive at Karanga Camp, perched on a ridge overlooking wide valleys and rolling clouds below. Enjoy a warm dinner and a restful evening as you prepare for the final push toward the climbing Mt Kilimanjaro summit.
Day 6: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp (4,640m)
After breakfast, continue your ascent over rocky ridges and windswept alpine desert landscapes as you make your way toward Barafu Camp, the final base before your summit attempt. Along the way, enjoy sweeping views of Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks rising dramatically above the clouds.

Arrive at camp by early afternoon to rest, hydrate, and prepare your gear for the midnight climb to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Day 7: Summit Day – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Mweka Camp (3,100m)
Begin your summit climb around midnight under a sky filled with stars. Trek slowly along the switchback trails as the cold, crisp air heightens your anticipation. Reach Stella Point (5,756m) in time to witness the first golden rays of sunrise illuminating the vast African plains below.

From Stella Point, continue along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. Take a moment to celebrate your incredible achievement and absorb the breathtaking panoramic views. Begin your descent carefully through the rocky terrain to Mweka Camp, where you can rest and reflect on your summit experience climbing Mt Kilimanjaro.
Day 8: Mweka Camp – Moshi
After breakfast, descend through the lush rainforest toward Mweka Gate, where you will be presented with your summit certificate in recognition of your achievement. Take a moment to thank your guides and porters for their support before transferring back to Moshi.

Arrive at your hotel for a hot shower, a hearty celebration dinner, and a relaxing evening reflecting on your incredible climbing Mt Kilimanjaro.
Day 9: Drive Moshi – Nairobi
After breakfast, check out and begin your return journey to Nairobi, crossing the Namanga border along the way. Arrive in the evening and transfer to your hotel or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your onward travel.
