This Gorilla Trekking by road safari is designed for travelers seeking a dramatic wildlife encounter paired with the richness of East African landscapes and culture. From the rushing source of the Nile in Jinja to the ancient rainforests of Bwindi where mountain gorillas roam.

Day 1: Drive Nairobi – Jinja

You will be picked up from your Nairobi hotel or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) by our professional safari driver guide in a private jeep 4x4 Land Cruiser. Drive east through Kenya’s highlands and across the border into Uganda, arriving in Jinja in time for lunch and check-in at the Lodge or camp

In the afternoon, visit the Source of the Nile a dramatic meeting of river and landscape that has drawn explorers and travelers for generations. Enjoy a short riverside walk, take photos at the iconic marker and breathe in the energy of Africa’s longest river. Return to your Lodge or camp for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Drive Jinja – Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

After breakfast, depart Jinja and drive southwest toward the foothills that lead into Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The road journey is scenic, moving from lowland plains to rolling farmland and finally to misty montane forest as you approach Rushaga. Arrive at Lodge or camp in time for lunch and a short rest.

In the afternoon, enjoy a gentle guided nature walk around the Lodge or Camp, watch for forest birds and primates and absorb the first glimpses of the Bwindi ecosystem. Return to Lodge or camp for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking Rushaga Sector

Start your morning with an early breakfast to prepare for your trekking day. Transfer to the Rushaga tracking start point where park rangers and guides will brief you on safety, gorilla etiquette and expected trekking conditions. Set out into the ancient forest to track your allocated habituated gorilla family. Treks vary in length depending on gorilla movements and can last from one to several hours; your guides will tailor the route to maximize viewing while prioritizing the gorillas’ welfare.

When you locate the group you will enjoy the official one-hour viewing period an intimate, unforgettable encounter with silverbacks, adults, playful juveniles and infants. A packed lunch will be provided for the day so you can eat in the field. Return to Lodge or camp in the late afternoon to refresh, relax and reflect on the day’s extraordinary experience. Dinner and overnight at the lodge or camp.

Day 4: Bwindi Drive to Kampala

After breakfast and check-out, depart Bwindi and begin the road journey toward Uganda’s capital. The drive crosses changing landscapes forested slopes, terraced farmland and roadside trading towns offering authentic East African travel rhythm.

Arrive in Kampala in the evening and check in at your chosen lodge in Kampala. Enjoy dinner and overnight at your lodge or camp.

Day 5: Kampala – Drive to Nairobi

After breakfast, check out and depart for Kampala for the return drive to Kenya, crossing at the Malaba border.

Continue to Nairobi, traveling through fertile agricultural plains and Rift Valley scenery before arriving back at your Nairobi hotel or JKIA for onward travel. This marks the end of your Gorilla Trekking road safari.
