This 1-day adventure to Thompsons Falls takes you from Nairobi through the scenic Great Rift Valley and the Equator line to Thomson’s Falls in Nyahururu, one of Kenya’s most iconic waterfalls. The waterfall, dropping about 74 meters, is formed by the Ewaso Narok River and offers breathtaking views, nature walks, and optional hikes to the base of the falls. 07:00 AM – Departure from Nairobi
Pick-up will be from your hotel or any designated meeting point within Nairobi city. After a short briefing, you will depart for Nyahururu via the Nairobi–Nyahururu highway. The journey takes you through beautiful and ever-changing landscapes, including rolling farmlands, small towns, and panoramic viewpoints along the Great Rift Valley. 08:30 AM – Equator Stop (Nanyuki Line)

Enjoy a short but exciting stop at the famous Equator landmark along the route. This is a great opportunity to stretch and capture memorable photos right at the Equator sign, where you stand in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres at the same time. You will also experience a simple demonstration showing how water behaves differently in each hemisphere, along with a brief and easy-to-understand explanation of the Coriolis effect.
11:00 AM – Arrival at Thompson Falls (Nyahururu)
Upon arrival, you will proceed directly to the main viewing point of the magnificent Thomson’s Falls, where you are welcomed by the powerful sight of the 74-meter waterfall plunging into the gorge below. Take time to enjoy the refreshing mist, capture stunning photos from the upper viewpoint, and appreciate the surrounding lush greenery. You may also opt for a guided nature walk around the area for a closer encounter with the natural scenery, birdlife, and the serene forest atmosphere.
 12:30 PM – Hike to the Base of the Falls

For adventurous travelers, the experience begins with a guided descent into the gorge along a rugged natural trail, offering a closer encounter with the waterfall as you move deeper into the landscape. Along the way, you’ll enjoy uninterrupted views of cascading water, cool mist, and dramatic rock formations that define the gorge. The journey also opens up excellent birdwatching opportunities, with various forest species often spotted among the dense canopy. The surrounding lush vegetation, riverine ecosystem, and natural serenity create a refreshing atmosphere, making the hike both immersive and visually rewarding.

Lunch at a local restaurant or lodge (self-paid), where you can unwind and enjoy a relaxed break while taking in the calm surroundings of Nyahururu town. This is a good moment to rest, refresh, and soak in the local atmosphere before the journey back. Later on, begin your return trip to Nairobi, enjoying a scenic drive through the Great Rift Valley with sweeping views, rolling escarpments, and picturesque landscapes along the way as you conclude your day’s adventure.
